With the clocks going back and the evenings drawing in it's easy to feel a little vulnerable in an MX5, given how low down and small you are in comparison to many other road users. The simple answer? More lighting!
The good news is We've got you covered on all fronts, not least with some exciting new products landing with us just in time for the winter months. These include fully illuminated replacements for the bumper reflectors on Mk1s and Mk2s, and similar items to fit the blanked off ones on Euro-spec Mk4s. In all cases, this makes your car just that bit more visible when pulling out of junctions, driveways or parking spaces and helps those in bigger cars spot you before an embarrassing fender bender. Arguably they also look cool too and help your MX5 stand out from the crowd!
For Mk4s We've got the genuine Mazda reflectors you'll have seen fitted to cars in markets like the US but, if you want to go further, We've also got properly illuminated ones from IL Motorsport and available exclusively in the UK through MX5parts. Your options here include super-bright LED units or a choice of more subtle alternatives with standard, replaceable bulbs available in clear or smoked finishes.
We also have a similar set-upfor Mk1 and Mk2 owners to replace the standard reflectors on the bumpers, this kit using the LED bulbs. In all cases, there is some simple wiring involved in fitting them, details of how to do it included in the instructions.
So that helps with people seeing you. What about seeing where you're going?
Lighting technology has come on a long way in the 30 years the Mk1 has been around and you'll find a variety of upgrade options on the lighting landing page, up to and including stylish smoked sidelights and full low-profile replacement systems.
While Mk4s use the latest LED lights, earlier generations can all benefit from a simple bulb upgrade to increase your field of vision after dark. you'll see various options on the 'bulbs' section for Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 - simply select the pull-down menu appropriate to your model and choose appropriately. While branded 'xenon' these are conventional filament bulbs that simply replace the standard ones while delivering a 'whiter', more intense beam like that created by modern HID units. There are various options available depending on whether you simply want a fashionable blue tint or a real boost for driving on dark rural roads, the top of the line Xenon Max items boasting a 100% power increase over regular bulbs. Sure, they're significantly more expensive than standard lights but in the dark winter months you'll be glad of them.
Happy shopping and, as ever, if you have any questions just give us a call!
