The Classic Car & Restoration Show 2024 RoundUp

The Classic Car & Restoration Show 2024 RoundUp
Monday, 15 April 2024

The Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show was another great show last month, pulling in a whopping 26,912 folks to Birmingham’s NEC from the 22nd to the 24th March - in case you missed it, here's our roundup.

Over 160 car clubs united to show off their restoration skills which was great to see and it just goes to show how dedicated car communities are at keeping car history alive and kicking for the next generation.

The Best Bits

There were some great interviews and panels with big shots like Ant Anstead, Richard Hammond, and more. And let's not forget the Footman James Barn Find display, where they dug up 20 classic gems.

Potentially biased, but the best bit of the show was of course the MX5 Owners Club very own stand. Populated with members of the MX5OC team, merchandise and of course some very special editions of the iconic roadster.

The Le Mans MX5

This classic MX5 formed the cornerstone for the Owners Club stand, with true enthusiasts herding around the homage to Mazda’s historic victory at Le Man in 1991. Kept in factory-fresh condition, the paint was a deep black with the iconic vinyl elements that form the Le Mans pattern stretching from the bonnet to the boot. 5 spoke alloys being the standard wheel of choice giving this roadster a perfectly OEM look.

The Tokyo Limited MK1 MX5

Sat parallel to the Le Mans edition was arguably an even rarer car, the Tokyo Limited MK1 MX5. Also finished in black but with the instantly recognisable beige hardtop. Being treated to a polish demonstration throughout the show, this limited edition MX5 was the perfect addition to the anniversary stand.

Restoring an MX5

A final treat on the MX5OC stand was of course the presence of a half-gutted and half-restored MX5 forming a demonstration car throughout the weekend.

With the top off in both ways, the engine was exposed as our friends at MX5 restorer worked throughout the weekend to get it firing. Supported of course by ourselves at MX5 Parts it was great to see a realistic view of what it takes to give the vehicle a proper once-over and get them ready for the road.

This was also one of the first opportunities this year to officially celebrate the MX5’s 35th anniversary. The Owners Club did a great job at this event to bring together some of the rarest cars in the MX5 scene.

Watch this space for further anniversary events, especially for the 9th of June where we will join them in celebrating the MX5 in all of its glory at the official anniversary rally - click to find out more about this event.
