What Do We Know About the MX5 35th Anniversary Edition?

What Do We Know About the MX5 35th Anniversary Edition?
Wednesday, 30 October 2024

One thing we do know is that Mazda were never going to let the 35th Anniversary pass without rolling out a special edition, which they did in style earlier this month at this year’s Mazda Fan Festa at the Fuji International Speedway when they unveiled the special MX5 Miata Soft-Top and its Roadster sibling.

So What’s New?

The obvious place to start is the colour, this special 35th anniversary comes in Artisan Red, a premium metallic that is a deeper darker shade than Mazda’s popular iconic Soul Red.

This colour isn’t just on the exterior as it flows to the top of the inside door cards, provides a nice little accent on the air vents, and you’ll even find this new colour in your pocket, as you’ll be switching on the ignition with a special colour coded Artisan Red key-fob.

The interior is in premium tan that extends right through the cabin to include the seats, carpet, centre console and special 35th anniversary luxury tan mats.

You’ll also find a 35th anniversary logo embroidered into the headrest of the seats which revert back to the regular seats, compared to the Recaros that were fitted to the 30th anniversary edition in 2019.

Back on the outside, tan hasn’t just been reserved for the interior as the soft-top model has a new tan hood that creates an eye-catching contrast to the deep dark red, and this MX5 Miata rides on 17-inch alloys compared to the regular 16-inch wheels.

And to finish off and make sure everyone knows your driving a special edition MX5, there is a 35th anniversary serial number plate on the lower wing.

Summary of 35thAnniversary Features:

  • Artisan Red premium metallic paint
  • Tan colour soft-top
  • Tan interior with luxury anniversary mats
  • 35th anniversary woven head rests
  • 17-Inch alloys
  • An exterior 35th anniversary serial number plate
  • Colour-coded key fob

How Many Are They Marking?

Mazda are keeping their cards close to their chest on this one and could be said to be hedging their bets on its popularity as they haven’t announced a specific number they are making, which is in contrast to other previous special editions.

Shigeki Saito, Mazda’s Chief of Product Development, commented during the Mazda Fan Festa event "We don't have a limited quantity because we want to deliver to everyone who wants it. We want those who don't have a Roadster yet, and those who already have one, to switch over."

How Much Will One Cost?

Again Mazda aren’t giving a whole lot away just yet as there is no official word of when they will be available for sale or what they will cost.

At the time of going to print (30th October 2024), a brand new MX5 soft-top is available in the following trim levels direct from mazda.co.uk:

  • Prime-Line £28,015
  • Exclusive-Line £30,015
  • Homura £34,835

Given the special edition's new features, we’d expect pricing to be around the Homura trim level, but this is one we’ll have to wait and see.
